Joanne M. Rice, 66, of Saegertown, passed away, Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Marquette Hospice House in Meadville. She was born on February 28, 1948 in Meadville a daughter of Wilfred L. Wood and Mary I. Perry Wood.
Joanne was a graduate of Saegertown High School.
She worked at Avtex before pursing a career in nursing taking classes at the Crawford County Vo-Tech to become an LPN, and later graduating from Gannon University as a Registered Nurse. After becoming a nurse she had been employed by Meadville Medical Center for a number of years, some local nursing facilities, and recently the Crawford County Correctional Facility.
Joanne was a member of New Beginning Church of God where she was involved in church life group.
She enjoyed reading, shopping on QVC, gardening, bingo, crafts, and spending time with her other kids "dogs" Abby Rose and Joey.
Joanne is survived by three daughters, Sherri Howard and her husband James of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Sheila Jordan and her companion Scott Gray of Cochranton, and Melissa Mailliard of Saegertown; a son, Jason Rice and his wife Melissa of Blooming Valley; thirteen grandchildren, James Kyle, Desiree, Stephanie, Nathaniel, Chad, Cameron, Mackenzie, Chandler, Logan, Zachary, Caitlyn, Tessa, and Hunter; one great-grandchild, Alexander; a sister, Shirley O'Neil of Meadville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William and Russell Wood; an infant brother, Wilfred Wood; four sisters, Patricia Barretta, Florence Manross, Frances Shorts, and Beverly Leonhart; and an infant sister, Rose Elaine Wood.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 9th at 11:00am at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville with Pastor Harold Ferraro (Retired), officiating.

Sherri, Sheila, Missy and Jason and extended family….. We are so sorry for your loss. Please know that your mother touched many lives and always brightened the room with her smiling face and her genuine kindness. You are lucky to have had a mom like her. I know your hearts are heavy now but I pray in time your able to find peace in knowing she is where we are all hoping to someday be,in the arms of our Lord with no more pain & only joy in our hearts.I have love for all of you!!! & am only a phone call/text/email away if you need ANYTHING!!!! I’m sorry I’m not able to attend Joanne’s memorial service but I will be thinking of you.
