Joseph Barretta, 85, of Meadville, passed away, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Meadville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born June 26, 1927 in Meadville, Pennsylvania a son of Pietro Barretta and Rosalia Lupo Barretta. He married Vivan Green, she preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and was activated during the Korean War in Germany serving with the U.S. Army.
Joseph retired from the Erie Lackawanna Railroad where he was a paint shop foreman and was involved with the National Heavy Mortar Company.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Italian Civic Club, and Marine Core League.
He spent the last 10 years wintering in Florida.
Joseph is survived by three brothers, Sam, Benny, and Tony Barretta; one sister, Anna Ambrose; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Col. Peter Baretta (Retired U.S. Air Force); four sisters, Rosalie Fera, Elizabeth Sturm, Cira Barretta, and Marian Barisano.
