Dorothy Law Snyder of Meadville, 95, died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Wesbury Grace Health Center.
Dorothy was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Willis B. and Sophia C. Law.
She was a graduate of Summit High School (Linesville-Conneaut-Summit High School) and Meadville Commercial College. Dorothy’s career included secretarial work for Talon Zipper, the American Brake Shoe Company, Allegheny College and thirty one years in the Assessment Office of Crawford County Courthouse. She retired in 1994.
Dorothy was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and The Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary, volunteering many hours over the years. Her favorite event was the annual Mistletoe Ball. She was also a member of the Northwest Council of Republican Women.
Throughout her life, Dorothy was a sports enthusiast. She played basketball in high school and enjoyed golf and swimming. She was an avid fan of hockey, golfer Phil Mickelson and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Dorothy was known by all to have a deep and abiding love for animals. Over the course of her life, she always had pets: dogs, including Penny, and Greggie; cats, such as Charlie, who were her best friends. The birds around her house were always kept happy with a well-filled feeder. She also enjoyed gardening and keeping her house surrounded by flowers.
Surviving are a much-beloved sister, Florence Law Chu of Marblehead, MA, with whom she spoke daily; nieces Elaine Chu of Marblehead and Loretta Chu Craveiro; grand-niece Jette and grand-nephew Sam of Beverly, MA.
A Memorial Mass for Dorothy will be held at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch Street, Meadville on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 10 a.m. with Father Johnathan Schmolt, pastor, as celebrant. Cremation urn burial will follow at St. Agatha’s Cemetery.
