MEADVILLE — Wanda W. Mumau Smith, 84, of Parkside Commons, formerly of Alden Street, Meadville, passed away peacefully after fighting a courageous battle of declining health through her faith and courage on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012.
She was born April 15, 1928, in Wilkinsburg. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Emma and Clair McGuire.
She married Robert Lee Mumau in 1947. After his passing on Jan. 1, 1980, she subsequently married Ralph Smith in 1980. He preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1988.
She was a homemaker for most of her life but had worked at the phone company as a telephone operator and The Meadville Tribune for four years.
Wanda was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Meadville where she sang in the choir and was in the joy circle.
She enjoyed bingo, traveling and animals, especially cats, and spending time with her children. She truly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was always thankful for everything and tried to please all she knew. She always had a smile for her family, friends, those who loved her and those who cared for her.
Wanda is survived by a daughter, Linda (Lyn) Hromek and her husband, Tony, of Meadville; two sons, David Mumau Sr. and his wife, Rose, of Meadville, and Daniel Mumau of Las Vegas; a daugher-in-law, Sandra Mumau of Venango; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Hromek Bailey, Kristopher Hromek, David Maumua Jr., Allen Mumau, Heidi Mumau, Ryan Mumau, Joshua Mumau and Monica Mumau; nine great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Brandon and Nicholas Bailey, Gabrielle Hromek, and Dylan, Leann, Logan, Haley and Riley Mumau; a stepgranddaughter, Becky Fleck and her husband, Corry; and four stepgrandchildren, Heather, April, Cheyenne and Dawn Fleck of Westfield, N.Y.
In addition to her husbands, Robert and Ralph, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Mumau.
Family and friends are welcome to call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Roofner-Collins-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 544 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville, with the Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen officiating.
The committal service and burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Township.
