Robert Allen Deal

Robert A. Deal, Sr. Robert "Pickle" A. Deal, Sr., 67, of 109 Weaver Street, Franklin, passed away on July 7, 2010 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born July 3, 1943, in Franklin, he was the son of William Earl and Thelma Isabelle Smith Deal. Bob served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era and was stationed in Kaisersloatern and Hanaeu, Germany. Mr. Deal was employed at Joy Manufacturing as a machinist from 1965 until his retirement in 2007. He was a member of Franklin Moose Lodge #83 and Jesse Greer VFW Post #185, where he held numerous offices in both. He was a member of Machinist Union Local Lodge #1842, where he held the position of union representative for 33 consecutive years and held various offices during his tenure; and was a member of the Negotiation Committee in 1975 and also from 1990 to 1998. Bob enjoyed coaching baseball and spent 12 years as a coach for Little League, Junior and Senior League Baseball teams. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. He loved his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Bob was married on June 18, 1965 to the former Nancy L. Kightlinger, who preceded him in death on January 27, 2005. Mr. Deal is survived by his mother, Thelma Isabelle Deal of Franklin; his three sons, Robert A Deal, Jr. and William H. Deal, both of Franklin, and Brian K. Deal of Beaver; and his daughter, Rhonda L. Montgomery and her husband, Robert of Titusville. Additionally, he is survived by his nine grandchildren, Chelsey Montgomery and Kyle Montgomery, both of Titusville, Christina Deal of Chicago, Illinois, Justice Oakes of Franklin, Brooke Deal, Paige Deal and Sara Deal, all of Franklin, Rachel Deal and Jonathan Deal, both of Beaver; and two step-grandchildren, Britney Laing and Brandon Laing, both of Franklin. He is also survived by his brother, George Deal and his wife, Barbara of Richmond, Virginia; and his two sisters, Billie Lee McMichael and her husband, John, of Galveston, Texas, and Phyllis Deal Moorhouse of Franklin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Deal was preceded in death by his father, his wife, and his sister, Barbara Ann Deal. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin. Funeral Services for Bob will be held on Sunday, July 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Kightlinger, presiding. Interment will be held at Franklin Cemetery on Monday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m. where military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
