Richard W. Hamilton Richard W. Hamilton, 82, of Grant Street, Franklin, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Sugar Creek Station. Born February 2, 1929, in Franklin, Mr. Hamilton was the son of the late Walter Lee and Mary Connell Hamilton. He was married to the former Norma Jean Gibbons on November 19, 1949, and she survives. Mr. Hamilton was a United States Army WWII/Korean War Era Veteran. He first served in the Army from 1946 to 1948 in Guam as a truck driver , and then from October 25, 1950 until November 26, 1951. He worked as a storekeeper for Franklin Steel from 1955 to 1983 and then worked in Logistics for EMS in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from 1983 to 1997. Richard was a lifetime member of the Moose, Franklin Lodge #83 and the American Legion. He was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hamilton is survived by his three children, Cheryn Mortimer and her husband, Richard, of Polk, Richard J. Hamilton and his wife, Sandy, of Cary, North Carolina ,and Stephen G. Hamilton of Walkertown, North Carolina. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Richard Mortimer and his wife, Brenda, of Richland, PA, Michelle Dickey of Franklin, and Kevin Hamilton, Matthew Hamilton, Sean Hamilton and his wife, Katie, and Tara Simmonds, all of Cary, North Carolina; and his six great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Emmalie Dickey of Franklin, and Kadence, Kylie, Jett and Alaina Hamilton, all of Cary, North Carolina. He is additionally survived by his sister, Sallie DiSalvo and her husband, James, of Richmond, Virginia. Services for Mr. Hamilton will be private and held at the convenience of his family.
