Richard R. Hoffman

Richard R. Hoffman, 82, of 308 Baker Road, Cooperstown, died at 7:11 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born Dec. 20, 1926, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Otto Hoffman and Bertha Brueckner Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman was retired from Nordic Fisheries in Pittsburgh, where he worked as a fisher and cutter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and he served in World War II. Mr. Hoffman was an avid hunter. He enjoyed gardening, leather crafting and his retirement. He was married June 14, 1947, to Ruth Helt, who preceded him in death. Mr. Hoffman is survived by one son, Robert R. Hoffman and his wife, Linda, of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Donna Haskins of Cooperstown; one sister, Lois Schenkel of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Kristi Hoffman of Pennsburg, Brian Haskins and his wife, Lisa, of Cooperstown, Jason Hoffman and his wife, Melanie, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Todd Haskins and Molly, of Oil City, and Shaun Haskins and his wife, Heather, of Meadville; and five great-grandchildren, Mae Haskins of Cooperstown, JaLynn Hoffman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Parke and Rylan Haskins of Oil City and Miranda Coxson. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Hoffman was preceded in death by two brothers, Otto and William Helt; and three sisters, Betty, Helen and Margaret. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Susan Evans, VNA Hospice pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the local VETS Honor Guard.
