Melvin McCarty Melvin McCarty, 68, of 1220 Chestnut Street, Franklin, passed away at his residence, Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Born June 16, 1941 in Franklin, he was the son of the late Herman A. and Zetta L. Robinson McCarty. Melvin was a former steel worker for Franklin Steel and a member of Local #2229 Steel Worker's Union, was a Master Carpenter and Member of Local #682 Carpenters Union, and was also a self-employed contractor. He was an extreme perfectionist in all that he did. He was a member of Franklin Moose Club #669, Franklin Eagles Aires #328, and Jesse Greer VFW Post #1835. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, spending time with his friends, and most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Melvin is survived by his daughter, Brenda McCarty and her companion, Andy Drelick, of Seneca; his three grandchildren, Tara Rowland, Austin Rowland, and April Patton and her companion, Matthew Bemis, all of Seneca; and his two great-grandchildren, Desiny Rose Patton-Bemis and Mya Hemi Patton-Bemis, also both of Seneca. He is also survived by his three brothers, Harvey McCarty and his wife, Lucille, of Franklin, Terry McCarty and his wife, Jane of Franklin, and Dewight McCarty of Reno, PA; and his two sisters, Maurine "Sue" Stover and her husband, Robert of Franklin and Melvina Chatley and her husband, Earl of Franklin. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his four brothers, Rodger McCarty, Robert McCarty, Delmar McCarty and Llewellyn George McCarty; and his two sisters, Cyrena McCarty and Daryle Stroup. A Memorial Service for Melvin will be held at the Social Hall of the Franklin VFW on Saturday, April 17 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ed Gresick, Pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, presiding.
