Joseph Alan Heffernan, 59, of 235 Maple Street, Franklin died at 9:00 AM, Saturday, June 29, 2013 at his residence. Born December 16, 1953 in Biloxi, MS, Joseph was the son of Floyd Ardven and Betty Deloris (OBrien) Heffernan, who survive. On August 22, 2009 he married Kimber Lee Heffernan, who also survives. Joe was employed as a Contracted Driver for his brothers company, Heffernan Hauling, and enjoyed providing service to and talking with his customers on his route. He enjoyed bowling, softball, and cooking hot dogs on the grill at Relay for Life each year. After he quit playing softball, he enjoyed watching his boys play, and never missed a game. Joe was happiest spending time with his grandkids and family. In addition to his parents, and wife, Kim, Joseph is survived by his two sons, Justin Heffernan and his wife, Jen and Thomas Heffernan and his wife, Carly; three step-children, Marc Patton and his wife, Heather, Michael Patton and his fiance, Melissa, and Nicki Carson and her husband, Dave; his grandchildren, who were his life, Riley Heffernan and Mason Heffernan; and his step-grandchildren, Kelsie Patton, Zoe Heckathorn, Jaiden Carson, Sami Schwartz, and Dylan Schwartz. Joe is also survived by a brother, Mike Heffernan, and his family, Shawna and Brad Leighty, Eden and Jewel Leighty, and Lindsey Heffernan; a sister, Jan Hartman, and her family, Matt Cook, Brenden Cook, Morgan Hartman, and Stephen Hartman; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins who meant the world to him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; a sister-in-law, Linda Heffernan; and his great-nephew, Joshua Lane Leighty. Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 3-7 pm . Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeremy Coyer of the Christ Covenant Fellowship Church in Seneca officiating. Interment will be in Lamey Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Heffernan Hauling Relay For Life Team (Big R.A.C.S. B.R.A.S) c/o The American Cancer Society, 21823 PA Rte. 68, Clarion, PA 16214. Joe and I had some memorable moments together…
I never knew of him to do anything unkind and I was proud to call him my friend.
My heart goes out to Kim and all loved ones of Joe. I met him at bowling this past year and I could already tell he was one of the nicest and funniest guys there is even in that short time I knew him. I’ll keep you all in my prayers.

Joe was a great man…i’ve known him about 4 years know while playing softball with Justin. Joe was always there to pick us up and encourage us to play to our best. He was a true spark for the team. Many of us at the team as more of a family because of Joe. I was honored to know him and blessed to be able to share fond memories of him. Thank you Joe for doing all you did. You are missed by more than you will ever know.
Joe was a friend, a good man and gentle soul and though I haven’t thought of him for years, as I write this I realize that I will miss him. My condolences to you all.
