Born in: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Resided in: Meadville, Pennsylvania

John Joseph Elwell, age 59, of Meadville, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 6, 2026. He was born on October 12, 1966, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Robert and JoAnn Elwell.

John proudly served in the United States Army, embodying a spirit of dedication and service.

A devoted caregiver, John lent his compassionate heart to his work at Supports, Inc., where he profoundly impacted the lives of those he served. He was a passionate individual, an outstanding father, and the absolute love of his wife’s, Vicki’s, life, who enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including fishing, exploring culinary delights, and engaging in various sports such as darts, cornhole, ping-pong, and biking. John cherished moments spent playing classic arcade games like Ms. Pac-Man, and he had a particular fondness for solving Rubik’s Cubes. Known for his punctuality and generous nature, John would go out of his way to bring joy to others, often being described as a sentimental soul who would give his shirt off his back to anyone in need.

John is survived by his beloved mother, JoAnn Elwell; his loving wife, Vicki Zaczyk; and his two children: Kaitlyn Elwell (E.J. McGreevy III) of Cumberland, Maryland, and Jamie Elwell of Mooresville, North Carolina. He is also survived by his two stepchildren, Alisha Clement (Joe) of Iowa and Steven Zaczyk (Karen) of Maryland; four grandchildren, Leona, Harvey, Evie, and Isla; and two brothers, Robert Elwell of Florida and Richard Elwell (Amy) of Meadville. Additionally, he leaves behind three sisters, Joann Rebbin (Chris) of Florida, Debra Hayen (Loren) of Kentucky, and Diane Branhan (Brad) of Kentucky.

John was preceded in death by his father and his infant brother, Joseph.

Friends and family are welcome to call on Thursday, August 13 from 4pm – 7pm at Ryan M. Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. A memorial service will follow at 7pm with Pastor Toney Wofford, officiating.

  1. I had the great pleasure of working with John at Supports, Inc. He always had a smile on his face and a profound willingness to make anyone’s day better. He was someone I could count on to help out in a pinch and he always did so with a grateful heart. He made a difference here and will be deeply missed. Praying for God’s peace during this difficult time for his family and loved ones.

  2. Had the pleasure of training John at a group home at Supports Inc. I despise training, but he was very attentive to the people we care for, an all around great guy. I didn’t get the chance to know him that well, but he left a great impression. John filled in for me when I was on vacation and “my guys” adored him. So sorry for his loved ones. He will be missed.

  3. Patty Simpson
John will be sadly missed. He was the kindest and most caring person to the tenants at Imperial Gardens.

  4. I had the pleasure of working with John at Supports. He was truly a gentleman. John was always willing to lend a helping hand when asked. He served others with a positive outlook and open heart. Those he supported were very fond of John and he will be greatly missed. God speed. My condolences to John’s family.

    dear Mother, JoAnn —

  7. I worked with John. He was such a great guy and everyone that I knew that knew him really liked him. He will be very missed.

  8. I worked with John’s brother Rich and always saw him eating with his clients at Applebees . He was very kind and took great pride in his work with his clients . Prayers for his families loss 🙏

  9. John and I first knew each other in high school, but we really got to know one another while working together at the coffee plant years ago. Some mutual friends encouraged us to take a closer look at each other, and I’m so grateful they did. We started dating, eventually married, and together we brought our daughter, Jamie, into the world.
John was not only someone I loved, but for many years he was also my best friend. We did everything together. He played on a basketball league, and I rarely missed a practice or a game. I loved cheering him on. One of my favorite things about John was how spontaneous and adventurous he was. On a whim, he would say, “Let’s go to Niagara Falls,” and before long we would have a bag packed and be on our way.
We also worked together at Stable Pit and Pub, where I was a waitress and John was a cook. We spent so much time together, and somehow we always managed to have fun. One memory that still makes me laugh is when we were walking on a dock at Conneaut Lake and came across a little skunk. John thought it would be funny to see if it could swim. What he discovered instead was that skunks can both swim and spray at the same time. He smelled like skunk for what seemed like a week afterward, and I never let him forget it.
John was also one of the cleanest and most organized people I have ever known. He taught me a lot about keeping a home neat and orderly, and that is a quality that stayed with me long after our lives took different paths.
The greatest gift we ever shared was our daughter, Jamie. She is loving, talented, compassionate, and strong, and I will always be grateful that we created such an amazing person together.
My heart goes out to Vicki, Kaity, Jamie, Rich, and everyone who loved John. Although many years have passed since we were married, I will always cherish the memories of our younger years and the adventures we shared. I am deeply saddened by his passing and heartbroken for our daughter as she navigates the loss of her dad.

  10. I send my condolences to all of Johns family. I have many memories growing up with John. I had recently sent him a picture of John, Jay and I waiting for the bus when we were in kindergarten. John, Danny, Jay and I grew up playing together together on Monnie Avenue. I remember one time we skipped school and stayed at my house. His mom came to the door and I was afraid she was going to see his big shoes sitting right there at the door. We use to go down to the lake swimming and fishing. We played in the woods and ran all over the east side. There was often a big snow pile in front of their house that we would play on. We played football in the field behind our house and king of the hill. I have many good memories of John. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest sympathy to his family and bless his mom. Duke

  11. John was in Highschool with me. He sat in front of me in Algebra class and helped me pass. He was such a kind, smart and funny person with a gentle heart. Im sending comfort and love to all of his family. Im
sure John will be deeply missed.
