Grover D. Boughner

Grover D. Boughner, Sr., 92, of Crestview Drive, Oil City, died at 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Oil City. Born January 24, 1919 in Canal Township, Venango County, he was the son of William and Rachel Heffernan Boughner. Mr. Boughner served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in the Southwest Pacific region. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Mr. Boughner was employed by the Flo-Line Corporation for 33 years as a machine operator until his retirement in 1984. Grover was a member of the Evangelistic Tabernacle in Cooperstown. He enjoyed gardening, playing chess, hunting, playing the guitar, singing, and taking car rides with his children. He was married on January 24, 1933 to Josephine Irwin, who preceded him in death on February 11, 2004. Grover is survived by his children, Grover D. Boughner, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne of Franklin, Karalyn Kay O'Donnell of Oil City, and Penny Jo Chutz and her husband, David of Harrisville; seven grandchildren, Andrea Hassay, and her husband, Gary of Boardman, OH, Melissa Williams of Estes Park, CO, Brian Boughner and his wife, Gina of Chapmanville, Nathan Boughner of Youngstown, OH, Megan Boughner of Boardman, OH, Daniel O'Donnell of Colorado Springs, CO, and Richard Robert O'Donnell of Colorado Springs, CO ; and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Boughner was preceded in death by his daughter, Maralyn May Boughner; his sister, Nellie J. Gealy; and four brothers, Emery Boughner, Claude Boughner, Earl Boughner, Sr., and William Boughner. Grover was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Fultz of the Cooperstown Evangelistic Tabernacle officiating. Interment will take place in Cooperstown Cemetery. I am very sorry to learn of the loss of your dad. He will be missed, especially by my grandparents. They always enjoyed his visits to their home. May the peace and comfort of God be with all of you.

He had such a great sense of humor. People enjoyed being around him. He was truly a wonderful Christian man. He shared his faith and wisdom with his family and friends.
