Ernest J. Hanna, 83, of East Freemont St., Townville, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness, Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center. He was born September 16, 1927 in Townville, a son of Arch Hanna and Gladys Altenburg Hanna. He married Lucille B. Boyle on August 9, 1947, she survives.
He was a graduate of Townville High School and a World War II Navy Veteran with the Navy Sea Bees in the Pacific Theater enlisted from June of 1945 to July of 1946.
He owned and operated Hanna Hardware in Townville all of his adult life and spent the last 30 years wintering in Florida.
He was a member of Townville Baptist Church.
He was an avid sportsman and was inducted into the Trap Shooting Hall of Fame.
Ernest was involved in many local and national organizations, he was a life member of Black Ash Sportsmen Club, Amateur Trap Shooting Association, life member of the National Rifle Association, past councilman of the Townville Boro, Kingsley Cemetery Board, officer with Townville Fire Department, life member of Titusville VFW, member of Townville American Legion, and was a Forest Fire Warden for 45 years.
In addition to his wife; Lucille of 64 years; survivors include two sons; Donald J. Hanna and his wife Diane of Townville and Robert E. Hanna and his wife Linda of Townville, three grandchildren; Dustin J. Hanna and his wife Hilary, Ashlee Zmijewski and her husband Peter, and Jared Hanna, two sisters; Beatrice Hanna-Royce of Fairfield, California and Lucille Hanna and her husband Jack of Suncity Center, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, September 9, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Willis L. Arnold Funeral Home, 33353 N. Main Street, Townville. The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Townville Baptist Church, 33274 N. Main Street, Townville with Reverend Bruce Moses, officiating.
Burial will take place in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
