Donna Whitmore Heffern, 65, of 1220 Chestnut St., Franklin, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Aug. 28, 1943, in Allegany, N.Y., she was a daughter of Homer A. and Mildred M. Fry Stanley. Mrs. Heffern graduated from Cranberry High School in 1961. She worked as a medical billing clerk for Dr. John Emerson. Mrs. Heffern was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and card clubbing with special friends for more than 35 years. She loved the color lavender, shopping, participating in the Relay for Life and especially enjoyed spending the holidays with her family. She was married Oct. 23, 1999, to William Heffern Sr., who preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons, Randall D. Whitmore and his wife, Cris, Rodney D. Whitmore and his significant other, Tracey Morris, and Russell E. "Rusty" Whitmore and his wife, Cheryl, all of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Survivors also include a special niece, Sandra Wygant of Erie; and a brother, Larry H. Stanley and his wife, Carole, of Tippery. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home, 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald C. Bole, VNA Hopsice pastor, officiating, assisted by VNA Hospice pastor the Rev. Susan Evans. Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the VNA Foundation Hospice Program, the Venango County Area Agency on Aging or the Kirtland Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 108, Franklin, 16323. Charlie Brown it was a long distance relantionship that was brought you into a family here in Florida through Bill that you will always be remembered for your kind words and thoughts through the years of special love we shared.You will be missed by Brandon Downes (Step-grandson),Maryann Hubert (step-daughter),and Michael Downes (adopted son-inlaw).Rest in peace with Bill.
